Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Skeleton "150th Anniversary" Limited Edition

Audemars Piguet celebrates its 150th anniversary with the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Skeleton Special Edition, marking the final appearance of the automatic calibre 5135. This movement has powered Audemars Piguet's 41mm skeleton perpetual calendar for nearly a decade. Given that Audemars Piguet has just announced a perpetual calendar watch that can be set via the crown without tedious adjustments, it is no surprise that the calibre 5135 is about to be retired.

This commemorative watch combines cutting-edge materials with vintage design elements. The 41mm case and bracelet are mainly made of lightweight titanium, while the bezel, caseback frame and bracelet rivets are made of bulk metallic glass (BMG). BMG is a palladium-based alloy that was first discovered in the 1960s and is now used in fields such as microelectronics and golf. Audemars Piguet combines titanium and BMG for the first time, creating a unique Royal Oak “Big Mac” ultra-thin watch, which will be presented at Only Watch in 2021. A few years later, other Audemars Piguet watches in BMG will join the brand’s product line.
